RICHARD “DICK” EASTON

Richard “Dick” Easton, age 83, of Wessington Springs, died Monday, March 30, 2026, at his home in Wessington Springs. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2026, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was 6-8 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Nurnberg-Basham Funeral Service in Wessington Springs.

Richard “Dick” Joseph Easton was born on March 19, 1943, in Mitchell, to Dale and Angela (Reindl) Easton. Dick graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1962. He joined the Navy in June of 1962, where he later received a medical discharge. Following his time in the Navy, he returned home and went to work as a farm hand for Bob Conklin.

He married Linda Garbe on July 6, 1963. Dick then worked as a farm hand for Martin Garbe before starting to farm on his own in September of 1965. His son Rick helped from a young age and joined full timein1983.DickandLinda moved in to Wessington Springs in November of 1986 and in 1996, they had a farm sale. In 1997, they moved to Gillette but kept their home in Wessington Springs. Dick worked for Means Construction as a truck driver. They moved back to Wessington Springs in 2001 and Dick worked for Dennis McEldowney. Then for a period of time they lived with Lawrence and Diane Horn and he worked for his brother Roger Easton at Energy Enterprises and also helped Lawrence Horn with his D&L Pilot Service.

The couple returned again to Wessington Springs where he worked for Swenson Partnership as a truck driver for 14 years until he retired due to his health.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wessington Springs American Legion, Farm Bureau, and the Silver Spur Dance Club. He also served on the Viola Township Board.

Dick is survived by his wife Linda; son Rick (Brenda) Easton, daughter Sally (John) Knight; grandchildren, Tanner (Whitney) Easton, Trevor (Sydney) Easton, Rebecca Knight, Julie (Mark) Wesolick; greatgrandchildren, Paycen, Huxley, Jentry, and Raleigh Easton, and Stella and Leo Wesolick. Siblings, Sharon (Ron) Goergen, Roger (Janet) Easton; sisters-in-law, Sharon Easton, Judy Garbe, Diane Horn; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karen Easton; brother, Craig Easton, brother, Don Easton; grandsons, Tyler and Tucker Easton; parents-in-law, Martin and Mable Garbe; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Garbe and Lawrence Horn. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Prospect Hill Cemetery in Wessington Springs.
