No Shortage of Sleuths: WSHS Stages “Too Many Detectives”

Wessington Springs High School students brought mystery and comedy to the stage this past weekend with performances of Too Many Detectives at the Murder Mansion, a comedic whodunit by Ian McWethy.

Under the direction of Katie Jackson, students performed the play Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18.

The production featured a cast of familiar literary and pop culture detectives thrown together in a humorous mystery where the sleuths themselves become suspects.

Cast members included: Nathan Gaikowski as Sherlock Holmes; Madilyn Gaikowski as Miss Marple; Will Jackson as Shaggy; Taryn Bartel as Velma; Lily Roesler as Daphne and Nancy Drew; Damien Knippling as Fred (with Zandon Beyer performing Saturday evening) and Sam Spade (with Nathan Gaikowski performing Saturday evening); Holden Jackson as Batman; Zandon Beyer as Frank Hardy; Paisley Kapp as Joe Hardy; Jalene Reiner as Detective Kane; Alexis Roesler as Detective Christie; Nichelle Dragon Kruse as Madame Doyle; Zachary Kruse as the 911 operator; Maise O’Day as Aggie; Mika Hengtgen as Bobbi; Kylie Edwards as Hannah; Owen Turley as Conan; and Taryn Bartel as Dash.

Danielle Duxbury served as assistant director, with lights and sound by Zachary Kruse. Stage hands were Grace Jackson and Morgan Mentele.

The comedic mystery follows a group of eccentric detectives gathered at a mansion who must solve a murder, with multiple possible endings keeping audiences guessing until the final moments.
