Water Main Replacement Project Set to Begin in Wessington Springs

Construction on the City of Wessington Springs water main replacement project is expected to begin next week as crews prepare to replace aging infrastructure throughout portions of town.

Hulstein Construction began making saw cuts Tuesday, May 12, marking the start of work tied to the multi-block improvement project.

The project includes digging up and removing older cast iron water mains before replacing them with new PVC water lines. Street sections impacted by the work have been marked with pink spray paint indicating areas scheduled for replacement.

City officials are asking residents not to park on the marked lines to help crews maintain access and keep the project moving efficiently.

According to the city, a small portion of Eighth Street originally included in the project was found to already contain PVC water lines and will no longer require replacement work.

The larger water main replacement effort spans approximately 8.5 blocks throughout Wessington Springs and includes street removal, water main replacement and street reconstruction. The work is part of broader infrastructure improvements taking place alongside the city’s Mid-Dakota Rural Water connection project.
