Young Spartans Continue to Raise the Bar

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the 7/8th graders traveled to Parkston to participate in their last JH meet of the season. These kids have worked hard all spring and their hard work and dedication to the sport had them ending the competition with some of their personal bests.

Josie Arhart and Kaycee Scheel were the two girls competing for the Spartans. Josie threw the shot put 26’ 0” for first place in the 7th grade division. Kaycee Scheel threw the shot put 20’ 10” for 5th place in the 8th grade division. Then in discus, Josie threw 50’2” to land in 6th place. Kaycee threw the discus 47’ 7” and although she may not have medaled, she threw it 1.5 feet further than any other throws this season. On the track they each ran the 100m dash in their respective divisions. Josie ran 15.5 and Kaycee ran 15.4. Kaycee later ran the 200m dash in 34.7.

The Spartan boys this year are all in 7th grade. Winning the long jump was Casen Waters with his leap of 15’ 1.25”. Keaton Hasty won the high jump at 5’ 2” and Chase Wenzel was 3rd clearing 5’ 0”. On the track, Chase ran the 100m low hurdles in 16.5 to cross the line in 1st place and Keaton ran 18.3 for 4th place. Casen ran 12.6 in the 100m dash for 2nd place. Ethan Heumiller was first in the mile run with his time of 5:52.6. Chase won the 300m low hurdles in 31.26 and Keaton was 4th with his time of 35.06. Ethan ran the 800m run in 2:43.7 for 3rd place. Casen was 3rd in the 200m dash, running 27.44.
