School District Recognizes Three Partners in Education

Three local businesses were recognized as Partners in Education during the Wessington Springs School District's staff appreciation luncheon on May 15.

Honorees included Humm-Dinger, the True Dakotan and Baker's Repair, all of which were recognized for their ongoing support of students and school programs.

Superintendent Jason Kolousek said Humm-Dinger has long supported students through its Student of the Month program, providing a certificate for a pizza and a pop to each monthly honoree.

Kolousek also recognized the late Jason Zacher for his quiet support of local students and schools. He recalled how Zacher requested a school yearbook each year so he could learn students' names and greet them personally when they visited the restaurant.

'It was a big deal to him to greet them with a name when they came in,' Kolousek said, noting that Ellen Tobin and the Humm-Dinger staff continue that tradition of community support.

The True Dakotan was recognized for its coverage of student achievements, activities and events throughout the school year.

'I know it's a big deal to a lot of kids to get the paper and see if their picture's in the paper,' Kolousek said. 'If I call her and tell her, 'Hey, this is happening,' she's there.'

Kolousek also thanked publisher Kristi Hine for providing Spanish translation services for the district when needed.

Baker's Repair was honored for helping maintain the district's buses and vehicles.

Kolousek said owner Kim Baker regularly goes above and beyond to ensure the district's transportation fleet remains safe and dependable.

'Kim does an excellent job,' Kolousek said.

The annual Partner in Education recognition honors businesses and individuals who support the district and contribute to the success of Wessington Springs students both inside and outside the classroom.
