Military tribute, bike events, micro derby and expanded food lineup at Leap to Lane 2026

One of Jerauld County’s favorite summer traditions returns Saturday, June 20, with several new attractions joining a full lineup of family activities, food, entertainment and community fun at Leap to Lane.

The celebration begins at 1:50 p.m. with a new military tribute featuring a color guard presentation of the American flag, followed by the National Anthem at 2 p.m.

Organizers have also expanded family-friendly activities this year, including a bicycle rodeo and kid’s bicycle poker run. Bounce houses, a silent auction and the annual car show on Main Street will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon.

Live music begins with Mogen’s Heroes, while new for 2026, the band Stomp Box will take the stage at 5:15 p.m.

Another new attraction is the South Dakota Micro Derby, organized by Adam Burnison. The event features Power Wheels and youth lawn mower demolition derby competitions designed to give younger participants the excitement of derby competition in a safe, family-friendly setting.

Power Wheels participants will compete in two age divisions, ages 3-6 and ages 7-10. Competitors may bring their own Power Wheels or rent one from Burnison, who expects to have approximately a dozen available. The lawn mower derby will feature age divisions for participants ages 9-13 and 1418, with all entries required to meet safety standards, including protective cages.

Food offerings have also expanded this year. Attendees can enjoy ribs prepared by the Jerauld County Pitmasters, Sheriff Jason Weber’s popular roasted hog, barbecue served by the Leap to Lane Committee and fair food favorites from DK Concessions.

The annual bean bag tournament begins at 3:30 p.m.

At 5 p.m., organizers will hold several popular drawings, including a gun raffle, a quarter-beef raffle donated by Todd and Kari Olinger, and a 50/50 drawing benefiting the Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Car show awards will also be presented at that time.

A beer garden will be available throughout the day. Organizers remind attendees that coolers are not permitted on the grounds.

With new entertainment, expanded food options, youth activities and returning favorites, organizers hope the annual celebration offers something for all ages while continuing a beloved summer tradition.
