The Wessington Springs Area Community Foundation (WSACF) recently awarded grants totaling $11,182 to area organizations and projects, supporting efforts that enhance community facilities, youth programs, arts initiatives and services for area residents.
Foundation members said the grants reflect the organization's ongoing commitment to investing in projects that help strengthen the community and improve quality of life throughout the area.
This spring's grant cycle funded a diverse group of projects, ranging from improvements at the Wessington Springs Senior Center and Shakespeare Garden to youth engagement, community arts and recreation programs.
Grant recipients included the Wessington Springs Senior Center, which received funding for painting and facility updates; Shakespeare Garden, for shrubs, trees and landscape timbers; the Wessington Springs Area Chamber and Development Corporation, for its Historical Tour youth engagement project; and the Springs Area Council of the Arts (SACOTA), for its Arts Loft project.
Additional grants were awarded to Jerauld County 4-H to help fund participation in 4-H Congress; Wessington Springs Church Concessions for the purchase of a grill; and Leap to Lane for improvements to the Lane Community Center.
The Foundation also awarded grants to the Rural Office of Community Services (ROCS) to support Wessington Springs senior transportation services and expansion of senior meal programs.
A grant from the Burg Family Fund was awarded to VFW Post 5548 for equipment supporting the local teener baseball program.
The Spartan Trap League also received funding to help purchase supplies and equipment for the youth shooting sports program.
Foundation board members Julie Bruckner, Cindy Eilers and Austin Schimke presented grant awards to recipients during a recent gathering.
