Almit “Lynn” Powell, 90, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his home. Visitation with the family present will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery in Wessington Springs, SD.
Almit Lynn Powell was born January 7, 1936, to Burl and Marion Elizabeth (Holcomb) Powell at Mrs. Cowman’s nursing home in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. He was the youngest in a family of three children.
Lynn married Patricia Ann Sinkie on August 7, 1960. They were inseparable and celebrated almost 66 years of marriage. They had two children, Robin Lynn in 1961 and Scott Wade in 1962, both of Sioux Falls. They have four wonderful grandchildren, Alyssa, Shelby, Abby, and Alexander, and eight great-grandchildren. His love for his family was deep.
During his youth, he rode horse to country school for eight years and then graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1954. While in High School, he participated in football, track, and choir. After High School, he went into the U.S. Army in 1955 for eight years. He lived by the core values of an Army man; Loyalty, Respect, and Integrity.
He started work at the age of eight for a neighbor doing farm chores and ended his work life at the age of 86. He worked for the Telephone Company for 32 years and developed many long-lasting friendships. He worked for Sears and then almost 20 years at Avera McKennan.
Lynn never shied away from a challenge and tackled everything in life head on, whether it was family or work. If you needed help, Lynn was there. He could fix anything and had a sharp mathematical mind. He enjoyed and rarely missed one of his children’s or grandchildren’s events.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Pat; sister, Jean Olson; children, Robin and Scott; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and many family and friends.
