The Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central Bucks stayed within striking distance of McCook Central/Montrose through the first half Friday, but the Fighting Cougars pulled away after the break for a 39-6 victory.
“We played a good first half of football,” Head Coach Michael Schmitz said. “We had a few opportunities to score that we just couldn’t capitalize on.”
WWSSC trailed 14-6 at halftime before MCM took control in the second half.
Grason Finn completed 6 of 7 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Wesley Molnar caught four passes for 73 yards, including the Bucks’ touchdown reception, and added 24 yards on 11 carries.
Defensively, Carson Finn led the Bucks with eight tackles. Teagan Eggleston recorded six tackles and a sack, while Nathan Gaikowski had three tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
“Coming out of half, we just couldn’t keep up the pace with McCook Central/ Montrose, ” Schmitz said. “We will continue to grow this season and look forward to getting another game for homecoming.”
