Behind The Scenes Of "Cinderella"

The countless hours of hard work Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) students put in for two months came together this weekend. Practicing every day but Wednesdays from 7-9 p.m. paid off with a packed house each night last weekend. As an onstage participant, watching the show evolve was something cool to see, and shows all of us how hard work pays off.

During play practices, some kids were in the back studying lines while others were upstairs laughing and having fun. But most importantly, we would have students out on stage practicing for the big show. While we were memorizing lines and practicing the run-through of the play, Melissa Hoarty was making sure all of our outfits fit us correctly, sewing them to the perfect length while also helping practice our lines!

The set couldn’t have come together without Kasie Sealey working her magic and giving us the perfect stage! This year we had many kids audition for the play, so we had a blue cast and a gold cast. The gold cast performed Thursday at 1:30 p.m. for the elementary students and parents as well as on Saturday night. The blue cast performed Friday night and Saturday afternoon. During practices it was nice having two different casts because if one person was gone from the gold cast, then the person who was on the blue cast for that character could fill that spot.

Thursday through Saturday we got to watch all our hard work come into play along with everyone else in the community. The Opera House was at capacity each night, which we couldn’t have been more thankful for. We also couldn’t have made any of this possible without Julie Fastnacht putting all of her time and effort into this musical, making it perfect.
