Bernice Ione (Renando) Olson passed away on November 28, 2022, at Westwood Place in Watertown, MN.
Bernice was born on May17,1927,atWessington Springs, SD, to Edwin and Ida (Gunderson) Renando. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Wessington Springs, SD.
Bernice graduated from Augustana Academy, Canton, SD, and then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN.
Bernice was united in marriage to Vernon G. Olson on August 17, 1947, at Wessington Springs. To this union a son, Mark Edwin, was born.
She taught rural country school for three years and then worked as clerk in the Jerauld County Treasurer’s Office. While Vernon attended college in Brookings, she was a clerk, typist, and bookkeeper at South Dakota State University for four years. In 1962 they moved to Watertown, MN.
Wherever she lived — Wessington Springs, Brookings, Huron, or Watertown — Bernice was committed to her church, choir, Circle ladies, and teaching Bible classes. She was involved with Christian Women’s Clubs for over 40 years.
She was passionate about studying God’s Word and was in constant prayer for her family and friends.
Bernice loved the Lord and reminded us that the only thing we can hope to take with us when we die is our family.
Those surviving Bernice who are comforted by the assurance of resurrection in Jesus Christ include son Mark (Debra) Olson of Winsted, MN, grandchildren Kirsten (Darwin) Paccha of Tarqui, Ecuador and David (Nicole) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD, and greatgrandchildren Daniel and Nathan Paccha and Elizabeth and Luella Olson.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A funeral service will take place December 8 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, MN, with visitation one hour prior. Bernice’s ashes will be inurned at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Wessington Springs, SD, to wait for the great day of resurrection at Christ’s return.
