Elizabeth (Betty) Redl

Funeral services for Elizabeth (Betty) D. Redl, 91, of Wessington Springs, SD, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls with burial at the Veteran Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD at a later date. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Elizabeth (Betty) Redl passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2023, with her family by her side.

Betty was born December 4, 1931, in White Rock, South Dakota to Martin and Catherine Zapp. She was the seventh of twelve children in the family. She attended school in Woonsocket and Carthage, SD. She met the love of her life, Bruce and they were married on September 20, 1958. This marriage was blessed with two children.

They moved to Wessington Springs and resided there for over 50 years. Bruce and Betty both worked for many years at the American State Bank until their retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, gardening, golfing, bowling and playing cards with friends. She was also very active and devoted a lot of her time to the Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bruce, and children, Brenda Redl, Barbara (Pat) Bruhn; five grandchildren, Mallory, Laura and Mary Redl, and Nick (Kassidy) and Bergen Bruhn; one great grandson, Hudson Redl.

Other surviving family members include two sisters, Lottie Wilson of Reno, NV, and Joyce Johnson (Ed) of Kenosha, WI.

Preceding her in death were her parents Martin and Catherine Zapp, and her siblings, Katherine Senska, Martin Zapp, John Zapp, Arlene Becker, Leo Zapp, Clarence Zapp, Eugene Zapp, Tom Zapp.

Honorary Pallbearers: Mallory, Laura and Mary Redl, and Nick and Bergen Bruhn.

Memorials may be directed to: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wessington Springs, SD.

The Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs is assisting the family with the arrangements.
