Margaret M. (Arnott) Olson was the second child born to George and Bessie Arnott in White Pidgeon, MI. Later that year the family moved to a farm in Hawkeye Valley, Wessington Springs.
Margaret’s eight years of elementary schooling was in a one room school house known as Moore in Anina Township. She graduated Wessington Springs High School in 1941 and in 1944 as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph Hospital, Mitchell, SD and the Army Cadet Nursing program at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Denver, CO.
On Nov 29, 1944 she married Adrian A. Olson, USN. Because of Adrian’s health, two moves were made from farms in Beadle County to California and eventually Oregon, where Margaret retired from her nursing career in 1984.
She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, gardening and caring for her home and family and her pets.
Margaret is survived by her four children, Shirley McGee (Don) Bullhead City, AZ; Dan Olson (Roberta) Fallon, NV; Carleen Olson and Darrell Olson, Bend, OR; three grandchildren Amanda, Carleen Marie and Cody; two great grandchildren Nicholas and Kadience Marie; brother Robert Arnott, Huron, SD, sister-in-law Ruby Arnott, Sioux Falls SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Adrian and grandson Dennis Olson, brothers Harold Arnott, George R. Arnott and sister Genevie L. Loving.
She will be missed by her family, she was truly a great mother. God Bless her.
A private graveside service will be held at Earlville Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangments are made by Basham Funeral Home, Wessington Springs SD.
