Tuesday, January 23

Wessington Springs – 39 Andes Central/Dakota Christian – 53 The Wessington Springs Spartans traveled to Dakota Christian to take on AC/DC. The Spartans were defeated by a score of 53-39. AC/DC started strong and led the Spartans 22-8 after one quarter of play. The Spartans were able to get things going in 2nd quarter and cut the deficit to 11 by halftime with the score being 30-19. In the 3rd quarter the Spartans were able to cut the lead down to 32-26, but AC/DC went on a little run to end the quarter and led the Spartans 41-29 going into final quarter of play. The Spartans could not get much closer in the 4th quarter and the final score ended up 53-39. The loss dropped the Spartans record to 8-3 on the season. Avery Orth led the Spartans with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Thursday, January 25

Wessington Springs – 51 Sanborn Central/Woonsocket – 41 The Spartans girls basketball team traveled to Woonsocket to take on SCW in a rematch of the 281 tournament championship game from just a week prior. Both teams came out firing in the first quarter trading baskets back and forth. The Spartans were able to hold a 16-12 lead after one quarter of play. The defenses took over the 2nd quarter with the Spartans outscoring SCW 7-5 and the Spartans led 23-17 at halftime. The Spartans basically held the same lead through the 3rd quarter and outscored SCW 13-11 and led 36-28 going into 4th quarter. The Spartans maintained the lead in the 4th quarter and were able to finish off the win by a score of 51-41. Avery Orth had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Carissa Scheel had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Alyssa Grohs filled the stat sheet and was close to a triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Saturday, January 27

Wessington Springs- 61 Miller – 52 The Spartans finished off a busy week with a 61-52 home victory over Miller. The Spartans came out on fire and built a quick double digit lead. Miller was able to cut into the lead and the Spartans led 19-11 after one quarter of play. Miller went on a run to start the 2nd quarter and were able to tie the game at 22 midway through the quarter. The Spartans had a strong finish to 2nd quarter and led at halftime by a score of 3430. The Spartans had a strong 3rd quarter outscoring Miller 16-13 and led 50-43 going into final quarter of play. The Spartans defense played well in 4th quarter by holding Miller to nine points in the quarter and the Spartans were able to pull out the victory 61-52. The Spartans record now stands at 10-3 on the season.
