Those who visit and reside in the town of Wessington Springs now have a new piece of art to admire as they travel along Dakota Avenue or visit the municipality’s pool. Local artist Ruthe Lindvall has just recently finished a colorful mural painted on the east side of the Wessington Springs pool house.
On Thursday, July 4, a mural unveiling and dedication was held at the Wessington Springs City Pool at 12:30 p.m to officially conclude the Springs Area Council of the Arts (SACOTA) mural project internship.
SACOTA board member Carrie Azure spoke to attendees about the project on behalf of SACOTA.
“This internship project started as an idea by our board member Becky Easter. Your innovative thinking and collaboration with Ruthe on this project has been invaluable,” Azure began.
Serving as SACOTA’s first intern, Lindvall worked hand in hand with the board to make their vision a reality.
“Your enthusiasm and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this mural to life. You took our ideas and put them together as a beautiful representation of Wessington Springs,” continued Azure.
Azure recognized the contributors that helped align the many moving parts of the project.
“We would also like to extend out thanks to our sponsors: Cheryl Kleppin, the City of Wessington Springs, and the Chamber and Development Corporation for their generous funding. Thanks to Kari Fagerhaug for being our liaison through the city and to Sean McDannel for allowing us to use his scaffolding on the project. It truly takes a village,” shared Azure.
Not only did SACOTA unveil the new mural on July 4, they also dedicated the work of art.
“We are honored to dedicate this mural to Cheryl Kleppin, whose passion, dedication, and tireless efforts have been instrumental in sharing SACOTA over the past 31 years,” said Azure. “Cheryl’s commitment to fostering a vibrant arts community has left an incredible mark on Wessington Springs. Here’s to many more years of artistic growth and community enrichment in Wessington Springs.”
