Last week’s season opener brought a definitive 28-13 victory for the Blackhawks as they took on Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan on the road.
Quarterback Holden Havlik had 291 yards passing with four touchdowns.
“Overall, we are really happy with the first win of the season. It is great to get going in the right direction. We really started to put some things together offensively to move the ball,” said Blackhawks coach Michael Schmitz, starting his first year in the position. “Holden Havlik had a good game throwing the ball and spreading it out to different targets.”
Some of those targets included Colby Flowers (86 yards receiving, one touchdown), Ryder Michalek (130 yards, two touchdowns) and Sam Poncelow (40 yards, one touchdown).
“Colby Flowers and Ryder Michalek had a great game bringing in big catches throughout,” shared Schmitz.
Defensively, Schmitz said the Blackhawks started off slow but gained confidence as the game went on.
“Our defensive line really came out fast and helped to disrupt the running game. Tyson Eddy had some key tackles late in the game to help solidify the win. The defense really started to work as one at the end of the game,” he explained.
Next up, the 1-0 Blackhawks host Lead-Deadwood on Friday, Aug. 30 in Wessington Springs at 6 p.m.
“It’s good to get a win under their belt,” Schmitz said. “I am fortunate to coach these great young men and can't wait to see what they can do.”
