The Blackhawks will host Miller/Highmore-Harrold in Wessington Springs Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
Under the Friday night lights in Wagner last week, the no. 5-ranked Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central (WWSSC) Blackhawks pulled out a win on the road after a slow first half.
“I feel that when we started the game, we started slow but as the game went on, we gained more confidence,” said WWSSC Head Football Coach Michael Schmitz. “The kids really started to rally and make good strides.”
Sam Poncelow landed three field goals in the game from 32, 36, and 33 yards out. Tyson Eddy had seven carries, 29 yards and a four-yard run for a touchdown. Holden Havlik added a touchdown of his own and Colby Flowers had five receptions for 86 yards and a one-yard catch for a touchdown. Bryce Larson’s five carries for 36 yards and a 10-yard run for a touchdown added to the win. Hayes Havlik had six carries for 30 yards.
“We took a small step forward Friday. I am looking forward to getting on to next week but I hope everyone enjoys this win,” Schmitz shared. “What a great team I get to be a part of, from administration in the schools, to the coaches and the kids.”
