Senior project aims to develop baseball skills while having fun

With a goal to teach youth the fundamentals of baseball while having a fun afternoon at the field, Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) student Blake Miller is hosting a baseball camp October 13 for youth in the rookies division to 16U divisions.

With help from mentor Charley Larson, Miller said he’s been researching drills for each of the age groups.

“It was a challenge to find easier drills the younger kids won’t forget as soon as they get home and doing it in a way that keeps them entertained,” Miller said. “They’ll do drills together then we will add some fun like hitting water balloons instead of baseballs. As the groups are more mature and experienced, we’ll switch it up for older players.”

With nearly 50 kids signed up, he will also employ the help of coaches and experienced players to lend a hand.

“Camps like this are important so kids can figure out and develop the skills they haven’t learned and have fun while doing it.”
