Cecil Wayne Whitlock

Cecil Wayne Whitlock, 83, of Spearfish, SD passed away on October 22, 2024, at Monument Hospital Rapid City, SD.

Cecil was born in Wessington Springs, SD to Raymond and Lillian (Fisher) Whitlock. He served in the US Army and fought for our country in the Vietnam War. He had many jobs that took him across the country and ultimately ended working for Homestake Gold Mine where he retired.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a man of the outdoors, he loved fishing, hunting, gardening and was an avid rockhound. He loved the Black Hills and took every opportunity to share its beauty. He also enjoyed his morning coffee friends where they joked and laughed about the past days adventures.

Survivors include his wife, Leida Whitlock; daughter Melissa (Matthew) Hansvick; halfbrother, Jeff Pederson; sisters Linda Kruse, Ginger Poling and Barbara Doty. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David and Gary Whitlock.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday October 29, 2024, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, South Dakota. Burial followed with full military honors in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota. Visitation was one hour prior to the funeral service.
