Donald Hurley

Donald D. Hurley, 81, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Dougherty Hospice, Sioux Falls, SD.

Donald Dale Hurley was born March 26, 1942, in Huron SD to Clyde and Juna (French) Hurley.

Don graduated from Wessington Springs High School and General Beadle State College in Madison, SD. He received his Master’s in Science from USD.

On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage with Carole Fastnacht. They made their home in the Wessington Springs and Gann Valley areas, and became loving parents to two children.

He farmed for over 40 years, with his brotherin- law Gene and taught school in several locations.

Don was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. Following his retirement from farming they made Yankton their home, for 26 years.

Don enjoyed traveling, delivering meals on wheels, gardening, flowers, reading, spending time with family and attending his grandkids activities. Don said, “He never met a stranger.”

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carole; daughter, Valinda Jost (Craig), Sioux Falls, SD, son Jarren Hurley (Michelle), Bonaire, GA; six grandchildren, Jared, Jakob, Kaleb and Karli Jost and Jalen (Laura) and Braydon Hurley; sister Norma, sister-in-law Renee, nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parent’s; brother’s Melvin and Dick, sister-in-law Vi, and brother-in-law Monte.
