Evelyn M. Weaver, age 100, of Wessington Springs, died Monday, July 29, 2024, at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2024, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial followed at Hope Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to services on Friday.
Evelyn Maxine Ankrum was born on July 31, 1923, in Pierre, to Clifford and Ella (Crist) Ankrum. She attended and graduated from Wessington Springs High School before attending Wessington Springs College for two years. In 1948, She married Arent Weaver and together they had two sons, Richard and Les. She spent most of her life teaching in various places. She mainly taught in one room schoolhouses but also taught 1st grade in Mitchell and spent 23 years teaching at Spring Valley Colony. Evelyn loved quilting, sewing and painting.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Weaver and Les Weaver; grandchildren, Tarea (Chris) O’Donnell, Kimberly (Shaun) Jensen, Jamie Weaver; Stacey (Sam) Weaver, and Brian (Shawn) Weaver; greatgrandchildren, Janece Wetzel, Billy O’Donnell, Jordan Jensen, Tommy Jensen, Colton Jensen, Johnny Weaver, Taran Weaver, Cole Weaver, Maycie Weaver, Shalie Weaver, and Lanie Weaver; five great-greatgrandchildren; and one sister, Faye Isaac.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arent in 1999; and two sisters, Dorothy Ankrum and Thelma Kraft.
