Iona Yost

Iona Yost

Iona Mae Yost passed peacefully away August 22 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Brookings, SD.

Iona was born January 4, 1945 at the Mitchell Hospital in Mitchell, SD to Jay and Beulah (Schooley) Grabin of Logan Township, Jerauld County, SD, the third of five girls. She grew up 15 miles west of Wessington Springs, attended a one room school through the 8th grade and finished high school in Wessington Springs.

Iona was united in marriage to Willie Yost of Miller on January 14, 1961.

They made their home in south Hand county until moving to Wessington Springs in 1994, to help care for her mother. Later they started a trucking business with Iona as office manager and Willie as driver/job manager which operated with partner Eldon Eggleston until 2017.

Iona’s battle with COPD limited her activities, such as yard work which she loved. But it didn’t limit her interest and work on genealogy which she really enjoyed and traced her ancestors back hundreds of years.

At the age of 45 she went back to college and got her associate degree in business management with computer accounting.

She is survived by two daughters which she was very proud of, Lynn Marie (Mike) Krauss of Wessington Springs, SD and Rebecca Ann (Chad) Roob of Astoria, SD; two grandchildren, Anna and Caden Roob; her sisters, Joy Eilertson, Della Abraham, June Geiman, and Jeanette Grabin; her brothers in law, Dean Geiman and Tracey Hern; her sisters in law, Norma Yost and Kathy Yost; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Willie; brothers in law, Verlyn Eilertson, Edwin Yost, Wesley Yost, Chuck Yost, Kenneth Pope, Dale Waters, Richard Moser; her sisters in law Charlotte Pope, Patricia Waters, Ardessa Moser, and Leta Yost.

A prayer service will be held Saturday August 27, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and a funeral Sunday August 28, at 2 p.m. at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church in Wessington Springs, SD.
