Janet Kolousek

Janet Marie Kolousek, age 71, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at her home. Her mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington Springs with burial following at Crow Lake Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be on Friday, December 29th from 5 - 7 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 7 pm, rosary to follow.

Janet Marie Kolousek was born on February 14, 1952 in Winner, SD to parents Alfred and Goldie (Best) Carter. Janet grew up in rural Witten until her familymovedtoWinnerher senior year of high school. She was attending South Dakota State University in Brookings when she met her future husband, Richard Kolousek. They were married March 3, 1973 and lived in Winner until they moved to the Farm in Wessington Springs in 1976.

Janet got her medical records degree and started her career at the Winner Hospital. After they moved to Wessington Springs, she continued to work in Winner for a couple years. She then worked in Medical Records at Weskota Memorial Medical Center until 1985. After the hospital, Janet worked for Jerauld County Clinic, now Horizon Health Care, for over 35 years in multiple positions including Office Manager. Janet was still working part time until her death.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was the church pianist for many years. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society, and active in community service including the Avera Weskota Manor Board, Education Director for Farmer’s Union in Jerauld County and Crow Lake Cemetery Association. She was a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator and at home she could always be found in her stamp room, making her beautiful cards. She loved supporting her grandchildren in their events and was proud of all her grandchildren and children.

She is survived by her husband Dick, children Scott (Amber) Kolousek, Laura Kolousek, and Leah (Jared) Richter. Five grandchildren, Isaac, Abigail, and Isabella Kolousek and Caleb and Shea Richter. Brother Ed (Judy) Carter, Sisterin- Law Cecelia Adams, several nieces and nephews and her friends, especially her prayer group and PEO sisters.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers Larry and Bob, and grandson Jacob.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Janet Kolousek memorial fund at American Bank and Trust.
