Lucille Kubik

Funeral services for Lucille Kubik, age 97 of Chamberlain, SD, will be held at St Margaret’s Catholic Church, Kimball, SD on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Lucille K, Kubik was born September 29, 1926, near Kimball, SD, to William and Anna (Blasius) Schlepuetz. She attended Waldro School all eight grades and Kimball High School graduating in 1944.

Lucille attended Southern Normal School and received her teaching certificate. She taught in Brule, Buffalo, and Jerauld counties.

On November 21, 1945, Lucille married Robert Kubik at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. They moved to Buffalo County until 1948 when they moved to a farm in Brule County. In March 1960 they purchased a farm in Jerauld County.

Lucille did substitute teaching, raised poultry, and loved to garden. She took a course in cake decorating and baked and decorated many cakes, specializing in wedding cakes.

Lucille and Robert helped organize the Country Cousins Square Dance Club and held various offices, including State Secretary of the Square Dance Association.

After her husband died in 1981, Lucille moved to Chamberlain and worked at the salad bar and bakery at Al’s Oasis, as a cook for the Chamberlain School, and various other jobs. She loved to embroider and made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren.

Lucille passed away on August 15, 2024, at Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, SD, at the age of 97 years.

She is survived by her children Sandra (Ronald) Cordell and Lonnie Kubik, seven grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents, brothers Herb, Wilfred “Bud” and Leonard Schlepuetz, and a sister Geneva Miner.
