Marion Meyer

Marion Faye Meyer 93, of White Lake, SD formally of Wessington Springs, gained her wings on Wednesday afternoon at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday November 30 at the Basham Funeral Chapel in Wessington Springs. Visitation was held Tuesday from 4-6 at the funeral home.

Marion was born February 11, 1929 to Anna (Garbe) and Louis Ammon at their farm north of Lane, SD. Marion was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Lane, SD.

She attended grade school at the Heller school and graduated high school in Wessington Springs.

On September 6, 1950 Marion married the love of her life James H. Meyer of Virgil. To this union three sons were born: Randall, Steven and Richard. They lived on a farm north of Lane until 1963 when they moved into Lane.

In 1964 Marion began her 40-year career of driving school bus for Lane, Woonsocket and Wessington Springs School Districts. When Lane consolidated, she drove for Wessington Springs until she retired in 2004. Marion loved children and enjoyed her job. Until her passing she still heard from some of the kids she hauled through the years.

Marion also loved to embroider and cook — many friends and neighbors enjoyed her pies and cookies. One of her favorite pastimes was working in her vegetable and flower garden. In Lane she always had a big vegetable garden and a beautiful flowerbed. She called her garden her heaven on earth.

In 2004, she moved from Lane into an apartment in Wessington Springs. From there, she moved into Hillcrest until 2008 when she moved into her present home Aurora Brule Nursing Home.

Marion is survived by her sons Randall (Cindy) Meyer of Gillette, WY., Steven of Wisconsin, Richard of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren Stacy Meyer, Travis Meyer of Gillette; Alicia (Rodney) Johnson of Tulsa, OK; Tony Meyer of Woonsocket; Jason Meyer of Artesian, SD; Malisa Meyer of Mitchell, SD; eight great grandchildren; two greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by and is now reunited with her husband James, her mother, Anna and father Louis; her brother Bernard, sister Luella Orth, Brother-in-law Albert Orth, a niece Linda Orth, her grandparents and grandson Curtis, and a great granddaughter Abby.
