Marlene Joan Mock, 84, left this world April 26, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, after a long battle with Lewy Body dementia. Mass of Christian Burial will be May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Parish in Brookings, SD. Interment will be at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marlene Joan (Tiede) Mock was born August 20, 1938,toNewtonand(Mary) Edma (Pinard) Tiede in Wessington Springs, SD. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1956. At age 16 she met her future husband, Robert John Mock, a newcomer to town. On their first date, which she forgot about, she arrived home late. He, however, waited for her and thus began their lifetime together. They wereunitedinmarriageon August 27, 1956. Marlene was the wife of a military service man for the first twenty years, and later, civil service, therefore they spent much of their life traveling around the world, living in California, Spain, Nebraska, Mississippi, England, Oklahoma, Colorado and finally back in South Dakota. They had a great love for England and spent a total of thirteen years there. She was, however, proud of her small-town roots. Marlene and Rob were blessed with three children, Cathy, Robbie and Ricky. Ricky, who was born with Down Syndrome, passed away at age 5.
Marlene was family oriented and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a sports fan, loved gardening and had a terrific sense of “Irish humor”. She could make pennies stretch in the early years and was a terrific cook and homemaker. She did work as a pharmacy technician at the Bartron Clinic Pharmacy in Watertown, SD when the children were grown. She and Rob loved traveling throughout the US and UK after he retired and had some great adventures with family.

Grandchildren: Christopher (Tabitha) Koch, Brandon, SD; Ashley (Jason) Kiley, Viroqua, WI; Geoffrey (Amber) Mock, Gardener, KS; Brad (Jessica) Mock, San Pedro, CA; Kate (Stefan) Froelich, Shawnee, KS. Great Grandchildren: Etta, Hannah, Logan, Julianna, Kennedy, Penny, Claire, Norah Jane, Lou, Norah Beck, Henry. Siblings: Connie (Don) McHenry, Faribault, MN; Jerry (Donna) Tiede, Le Sueur, MN.
She was preceded in death by: son, Richard “Ricky” Mock; parents Newton and Edma Tiede, brothers Richard “Dickey Joe” Tiede, John “Jack” Tiede; parents-in-law Hugo and Bernice Mock.
