Donna Grohs Satter, 97, of Wessington Springs, SD, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at her home under hospice and her children’s care in Wessington Springs. Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 31, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial was at St. Margaret’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimball, SD. Visitation was Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Church with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Donna Mae Aikins was born on January 11, 1929, in Buffalo County, SD, to Warren and Mary (Boesen) Aikins. She attended rural elementary school in Logan Township before graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1947. She went on to attend Wessington Springs College, earning her teaching certificate, and taught at Prairie Bell country school for one year before marrying Victor Grohs in 1948. She was an active mother of eight children and was a vital participant on the farm.
After Victor’s passing in 1974, she built her home in Wessington Springs and worked in retail. In 1980, Donna married Kenny Satter. She was a hospice volunteer, and later she and Kenny worked managing the Super 8 Motel in Huron, SD. In 1991, she returned to Wessington Springs. After losing her home in the 2014 tornado, she moved to Weskota Independent Living and remained there until her death.
Donna is survived by her eight children: Jeraldine (Lloyd) Lutter, Pauline (Monte) Kaus, Wayne (Sandy) Grohs, Dihl Grohs, David (Gloria) Grohs, Randy (Cindy) Grohs, Deanna (Keith) Ness, Bonnie (Allen) Powell. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Mary (Boesen) Aikins; her brother, LeRoy (Josy) Aikins; her husbands, Victor Grohs and Kenny Satter; her grandson, Justin Ness; and her granddaughter, Christi Laverack.
