Reba Jordanna Carothers, a 12-year-old resident of Wessington Springs, SD, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She was hit by a car while trying to board her school bus.
Reba was born on May 4, 2011, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to her loving mother, Rebecca (Carothers) Doty. She attended school in Wessington Springs and was currently in the 6th grade.
From a young age, Reba was passionate about music and loved to dance and play around with her older siblings. She joined the school band this year and started playing the clarinet.
Those who knew Reba best remember her as a caring and loving child. She was always full of life and had a positive outlook on everything. She loved the outdoors, especially swimming at the city pool, lakes, and creeks. She also enjoyed her semitruck road trips with her mom, particularly those that took them through Montana, her favorite state. Reba was fond of stars and moons and loved animals, especially birds.
Reba is survived by her mother, Rebecca Doty, and her siblings, Raymond (Kylie) Carothers, Ira-John (Kimberly) Gilmore, Sierra-Rae (Anthony Turner) Carothers, and Gage Doty. She is also survived by her grandparents, Dale and Philda Carothers; her aunts and uncles, Stacey Barnes, Tracey Pifher, Dale Ira Carothers, Leo (Melissa) Bradley, and Jesse Carothers; her nieces, Rayne Carothers, Isabelle Gilmore, and Ava Turner; her nephew, Dean Carothers; and her cousins, Michael Bradley, Brice Bradley, and Elizabeth Bradley. She will be deeply missed by her best friends, Rayne, Kyle, Kambrie, Leigh, Zeelin, Journey, and Jocelyn.
Reba is preceded in death by her grandmother, Beverly Kay Howell.
A visitation for Reba will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 1 – 3 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 210 Dunham Ave N, Wessington Springs, SD 57382.
