Verlyn Ray Schimke, age 61, of Wessington Springs, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, March 5, 2024. Memorial services were 10:30 a.m., Monday March 11, 2024, at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church in Wessington Springs. Inurnment followed at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Wessington Springs. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Verlyn Ray Schimke was born on January 1, 1963, in Wessington Springs to Walter and Della (Vogel) Schimke. He attended grade school in the Wessington Springs area where he graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1982. He attended Mitchell Technical College for a course in welding but spent his life farming northwest of Wessington Springs.
Verlyn married Renee Mathis in Wessington Springs on June 11, 1988, at the United Church of Christ and the couple spent many happy years together.
He is survived by his wife Renee of Wessington Springs; one sister, Virginia (Jack) Van Eck of Lake Wilson, MN; one sister-in-law, Delores Schimke of Nebraska; one brother-in-law, Raymond Mathis of Artesian; nieces, Linda Nissen, Lynette (Tony) Mitzel all of Nebraska, Jolyn (Rob) Lemburg of Tracey, MN, Shannon (Steve) Baccanini of Phoenix, AZ, Laura Ross of Minneapolis; one nephew; several grand nieces; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Vernon Schimke; and his mother-in-law June Mathis.
