Darleen wrote her news Monday morning and Delia came to get it later in the forenoon. Darleen enjoyed the hamburger, green beans, tater tots and pudding from the Manor kitchen. In the evening Darleen enjoyed the Wessington Springs music concert on the school channel. It was the JH and High school students. Mrs. Julie Fastnacht and Mrs. Munsen are great instructors. Darleen’s grandson Brock Krueger and granddaughter Baleigh Sails sang with the group and were in the band.
Tuesday Darleen enjoyed the ham dinner and cake from the Manor kitchen. At 2:30 p.m. Pastor Cheri Van Gorp of the Methodist Church and Elaine Roetman were hostesses in the north dining room for church members to get better acquainted. Attending were Mary Jane Belz, Diane Patton, Mary Lou Cameron, Diane Winter, Gladys Kieser and Darleen Cuppy. Pastor Cheri said a prayer then she and Elaine Roetman served mini vegetable pizzas, orange sherbet Jello salad and coconut bars with coffee. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.
Lorraine Schultz was hostess for our 9 a.m. coffee on Wednesday. She served delicious banana bread and oatmeal muffins. Enjoying the food and fellowship were Vera Salter, Luella Teveldal, Judy Baumgart, Kathy Larson, Pastor Nancy Reike, Joyce Mees and Darleen Cuppy.
Darleen enjoyed the roast beef dinner and cherry dessert from the Manor kitchen. At 2 p.m. bingo was played. Lyle Pawlowski called the numbers. Enjoying the afternoon were Joyce Mees, Diane Carlson, Doris Deneke, Luella Teveldal, Judy Baumgart, Shirley Bender, Eileen Kraft Thomas, Marilyn Robbins and Darleen Cuppy. Cookies were furnished by Judy Baumgart for coffee. Wednesday evening Darleen enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Seattle Mariners baseball game. The Twins won 6-3.
Thursday Darleen Cuppy rode the bus to Angie Mentzer’s beauty shop for a 10:30 a.m. appointment. Darleen enjoyed the pork chop dinner from the Manor kitchen. In the afternoon the Minnesota Twins played the Seattle Mariners. The Twins won big 11-1!
Friday Darleen enjoyed the chef salad and apple crisp dinner from the Senior Center. Darleen’s daughter Carol and Jeff Collins of Castlewood came to get the table and chair set that had been in storage. Jeff enjoys refinishing furniture and is very good at it. They brought Darleen a strawberry sundae from the Cone Zone and a bouquet for Mother’s Day and visited for a while. Darleen’s daughter Cheryl and Craig Van Asperen of Wessington stopped to visit in the late afternoon. Craig had been to the doctor. Friday evening the Minnesota Twins played the Toronto Blue Jays. The Twins won 3-2.
Saturday Darleen received Mother’s Day bouquets from Don and Susie Cuppy of Mitchell and from Cindy and Fred Zenk of Webster. She also received beautiful cards and money from Darryl and Nancy of Harrold and Cathy White, Ella and Nora of Sioux Falls.
Sunday Darleen Cuppy and Rochelle Witte rode the bus with Delia Atkinson to the Methodist Church for the 11 a.m. service. Lisa Edwards played a beautiful prelude. Pastor Cheri gave several announcements and led the responsive reading Psalms 95:1-7. We sang the hymn “How Great Thou Art.” There were several joys and concerns and prayers. We all said the Lord’s prayer. The offering was taken. The choir sang a beautiful anthem. The choir members are Jan Krohmer, Sandy Wenzel, Diane Winter, Gretchen Burnison, Lila Hoffman, Julie Kraft, Lynda and Kirk Luymes, Darrel Winter and Chris Schimke. Pastor Cheri’s sermon was “Called by God.” All mothers received a carnation and a Mother’s Day message “May God’s many blessings be yours forever more and may you know you’re valued and loved by the Lord. Especially on this day that we have set aside to show our appreciation to the mothers in our lives.” We closed with the hymn “Beams of Heaven as I Go.”
Becky and Brock Krueger stopped at Darleen’s in the late afternoon with a Mother’s Day card and visited for a while. Candi and Baleigh brought supper from the Cone Zone to Darleen and stayed to visit.
