Small town newspaper? Why do I even waste my time and money on you? What good can you provide for us when we have social medias?
Better yet, why NOT is the question? Why not step away from social medias? What happened to the days when kids would get that feeling when they made it into the paper and all the family members called them or bought 10 more copies of the newspapers just because they were in that paper?
Geesh who am I? When did I become that “old person” who now buys the 10 copies of the newspaper when my children (or husband) makes it into the True Dakotan.
Why? Because there is nothing like being your mother, or grandmother saving all the clippings for the kids to look through when I am gone…laughing, smiling that they get that hard copy in their hand to hold versus having to scroll and scroll through a screen to find the pictures or “clippings.” It’s amazing what you can find in a weekly edition of a newspaper that you cannot find on social media or online.
You might ask, why can’t people just get with the times and post everything online? I am 31...it’s really not that old. For you kids who think 30 is old, I was you once. I had my first cellphone at 13. Was it a flip phone? Yes, but I did have a cellphone growing up. It drives me absolutely nuts when everything has to be online.
Recently, for example, we went to Scheels and the kids wanted a Ferris wheel ride. I was told to use the QR code to buy it. Long story short, we didn’t get rides that day after many failed attempts at that stinking QR code.
Life can be simple. Life can be enjoyable. Life can be grand. Enjoy what you can all see in the newspaper now. Because someday, sadly, I’m afraid you won’t be able to hold it in your hand… and I won’t be happy about it.
Thank you Kristi and team for all your love and commitment to community news over the last years since we moved back. You are so loved and cherished.
