Wrapping up the legislative session is always a bit of an odd experience. You’ve worked relentlessly for eight weeks and then the final week arrives and the whole normal order of business is upended. Regular committee work has ended and all that remains are conference committees and the budget.

Week 8 in the state le gislature hummed right along. The second to last week seemed to be a transitional kind of week of sorts. Committees wrapped up their work, and the chambers started to move towards political funny business. The House had some long list of bills we heard.

Revenue setting for fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, and June 30, 2024, is now complete. The revenue setting committee is made up of five Senators and five Representatives all from the Joint Committee on Appropriations.

Notes from the WS American Legion Auxiliary

The Wessington Springs Legion Auxiliary met February 20, 2023 at the Weskota North Apartments at 7 p.m. with 14 in attendance – this was a make up meeting after weather cancellation in January. After prayer and pledges, the Secretary and Treasurer reports were approved as read.

Darleen Cuppy wrote her Cuppy’s Corner News Monday morning. Delia Atkinson got it later in the forenoon. Darleen enjoyed the roast beef dinner from the Manor kitchen Monday noon. Reina Peterson Ford delivered Darleen’s prescription, etc. from Lewis Drug Monday afternoon.
