Last Thursday, the Spartan girls played their last home regular season game and were able to come away with an exciting overtime victory over Hitchcock-Tulare.
The first quarter went back and forth. The Spartans were able to take the lead at end of first quarter on a half court shot at the buzzer by Masynn Mebius. There was not much scoring in the 2nd quarter with Spartans outscoring H-T 7-2 to take a 19-13 lead into halftime. Hitchcock-Tulare controlled the 3rd quarter and the game was tied at 23 going into the 4th quarter.
By midway through 4th quarter Hitchcock-Tulare had built a 33-26 lead. However, the Spartans put on a furious comeback and actually took a 38-36 lead with under a minute to play. Hitchcock-Tulare was able to make a game tying basket with three seconds left and the game went into overtime tied at 38.
In overtime, the Spartans outscored H-T 10-3 to pull out the 48-41 victory. Masynn Mebius led the scoring with 15 points on 5 made 3 pointers. Kerstynn Heim put in 8 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Kenzie Kolousek had 9 points and 4 steals. Kendall Kolousek had 7 points and 8 rebounds.
The win improves the Spartans record to 11-7 on the year. The Spartan girls JV team won their game by a score of 45-29. The JV team is 9-5 on the season.
The Spartan girls will play their last two regular season games this week. On Tuesday at White Lake vs. Kimball/White Lake and on Friday at James Valley Christian.
Post season play for girls basketball will begin on February 23. The Spartans are in Region 2B and will get a first round bye. Right now the Spartans are the 4th seed in Region 2B.
The second round of Regions will be Tuesday, February 24. Each of the top 4 seeds will host the second round game. There is a chance the Spartans could host a region game on February 24 or they could be on the road. Seeding is really close and final games this week will determine final seeds.
