The Wessington Springs Spartans traveled to Howard on Saturday and came away with JV and Varsity victories. The JV team defeated Howard by a score of 33-20 to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Spartan Varsity team moved to 2-1 on the season with a 63-37 victory.
It took the Spartans a few minutes to get going as they did not score until mid-way through the first quarter, but once they scored, they got going well and held a 13-5 lead after one quarter of play.
The Spartan girls had a strong 2nd quarter by outscoring Howard 16-8 and held a 29-13 halftime lead.
Howard tried to get back into the game in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead down to 11 points, but the Spartans were able to have a strong finish to the quarter and took a 40-24 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Spartans had a strong offensive quarter with all girls getting into the game and 8 different girls scoring and put up 23 points to make the final score 63-37.
Kerstynn Heim led the Spartans with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Addy Orth had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Kenzie Kolousek had 11 points and 4 steals. Mariah Messmer had 7 points and 6 rebounds.
Next up for the Spartan girls is a matchup vs McCook Central/ Montrose in the Parkston Classic on Monday, December 30 at 11 a.m.
