The Wessington Springs Spartans girls basketball team wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of road victories.
Last Tuesday, the Spartans traveled to White Lake to face Kimball/ White Lake and came away with a 50-18 win. The first quarter was close, with the Spartans holding a 12-9 lead after one. The Spartan defense took control in the second quarter, holding Kimball/ White Lake scoreless while adding 17 points for a 29-9 halftime advantage.
Wessington Springs outscored KWL 12-6 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 41-15 heading into the fourth. The Spartans won the final quarter 9-3 to secure the 50-18 victory.
Masynn Mebius led the Spartans with 14 points. Kenzie Kolousek added 10 points. Kerstynn Heim finished with seven rebounds and three points, while Kendall Kolousek recorded six points and six rebounds.
On Friday at James Valley Christian, the Spartans defeated JVC 54-27. Wessington Springs got off to a strong start, outscoring JVC 18-2 in the first quarter. The Spartans continued their momentum in the second quarter to build a 30-10 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Spartans outscored JVC 24-17 to seal the victory.
Kenzie Kolousek led the scoring with 15 points. Kendall Kolousek and Lily Roesler each added 10 points. Heim grabbed eight rebounds, and Addy Orth pulled down seven boards.
The Spartans finish the regular season with a 13-7 record.
Wessington Springs enters postseason play as the No. 4 seed in Region 2B and will open region action Tuesday at home against De Smet. With a win, the Spartans would advance to the Region semifinals Thursday in Madison against Arlington at 6 p.m.
