Spartans Tackle Fish Lake in Fine Fashion

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Spartans traveled to Fish Lake golf course due to a scheduling conflict, as we were scheduled to go to Chamberlain on Thursday. The Spartans made the most of the heat and wind and ran up and down the hills of Fish Lake in fine fashion.

The girls’ varsity was the first race off the start line. The 5K course was tweaked a bit from previous years, making it closer to the 3.10 miles. Alexis Roesler led the Spartans as she finished in 3rd place with her time of 25:02.6. Ella Kolousek kept a group of girls in her sights as she crossed the line to finish in 26:41.2 to capture the 6th place medal. The third runner for WSHS was Masynn Mebius who crossed the line in 14th with her time of 26:41.2, most importantly she finished ahead of MVP’s third runner. Those combined efforts from the girls led to them bringing home the Team Champions plaque, a first ever for the girls’ team. Joining the team is senior Bailey Yost, and we look forward to her competing at the Faulkton meet next week.

Stepping to the line for the next race was the boys’ varsity. We entered two boys into the race. Sam Welsch ran extremely well throughout the course. He finished in 2nd place with his time of 19:46.3. Ranick Fjerstad is feeling better and looked much better running the course. He kept a good position throughout the course and used a strong finish to secure a top ten finish, running 22:37.8 to capture the 9th place medal.

We travel to Faulkton on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The meet will be held at the golf course on the west side of town and start at 11 a.m. with girls’ varsity.
