Larson Earns Top Honors and Sinks First Hole-in-One of the Season
The Spartans enjoyed a thrilling and memorable day on the golf course last Thursday, April 27 as the varsity boys team claimed first place and Blake Larson medaled top honors after reaching a pinnacle many golfers never reach — a hole in one.
Larson landed first with a 69. Blake Miller had a 77 to finish sixth and Luke Larson was seventh at 79. With an 81, Brock Krueger was eleventh and JD Thompson finished 16th with 84. With 93, Heyns Bothma came in 25th. As a team they called the top spot with 225.
During the meet, Spartans Head Golf Coach Regina Teveldal was moving around the course to spend time with all of the student athletes golfing that day. Suddenly, her Apple Watch alerted her to Larson’s hole in one and she immediately set out toward hole 4.
“When I saw him, I told him, ‘take this all in today because this is a day you’re going to remember the rest of your life. And it’s so cool it happened right here on your home course,’ she shared. “It is also the first hole in one of the season and he made it up on the country club marquee that day.”
Teveldal said that its no surprise the boys are doing so well based on the extra time they spend on the course.
“They are putting in the extra time and effort and they work hard. I’ve told them they are very good examples for the underclassmen,” she said. “We have a very strong core boys team, they are young too, we have some depth and they will be a force to reckon with.”
