All 34 teams competing in the annual “Fire in the Hole” Golf Tournament posed for a group photo in front of a Wessington Springs Fire Department truck at Springs Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 23. Proceeds from the tournament will help fund the community’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration as well as a memorial honoring fallen firefighter Michial Brodkorb.

The Wessington Springs Fire Department hosted its annual “Fire in the Hole” Golf Tournament at Springs Country Club on Saturday, Aug. 23. Perfect weather and pristine course conditions welcomed 34 teams to a day of competition and community support.

The Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central Bucks opened their season with a win Friday night, defeating the Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan Seahawks 13-12 in front of a home crowd.
KRISTI HINE / TRUE DAKOTAN Hayes Havlik added three catches for 76 yards, including a touchdown during Friday night’s 13-12 Bucks victory over Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan. Havlik suffered a catastrophic ankle and lower leg injury during the game and later underwent surgery.

Mason Schelske’s hot bat and Terrek Butterfield’s steady arm helped keep the Wessington Springs Owls alive in Pony Hills district tournament play with a 6-4 win over Winner on Sunday.Schelske went 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in four runs with a double and a pair of key hits.
