BY HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH JASON KOLOUSEK On Saturday, the Wessington Springs Spartans girls basketball team improved their record to 2-1 with a 47-40 victory over Howard. The scoring was slow to get started by the Spartans and they did build an early 6-2 lead.

Student Athletes Earn All-State, All-Conference Honors

Eight student athletes recently received all-state and all-conference accolades for their contributions during the 2023 football and volleyball seasons. Volleyball 281 all conference: First team - Avery Orth, Second Team - Alyssa Grohs, Honorable Mention - Raylee Fagerhaug.

Lady Spartans Finish 17-14 on Season

During Region 5B quarterfinals against Tripp-Delmont/Armour, the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans’ season came to an end after four sets. During the volleyball action, Carissa Scheel had 15 kills, and Raylee Fagerhaug had 23 digs. The Spartans finish the season 17-14.

On Friday, October 20, 2023, the Spartans left to go to Sioux Falls to practice on the course for the state meet, which was at Yankton Trail Park. The course was in great shape and the weather looked to be favorable for runners and spectators, alike.

BY HEAD CROSS COUNTRY COACH BECKY KRUEGER On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Spartans traveled up to Gettysburg to participate in the Region 4B cross-country meet. The wind was blowing, but the sun was shining, and it really was a great day for running.

Lady Spartans raise funds, cancer awareness at local event

A pink-clad crowd filled the gym for the Lady Spartan volleyball action vs. Wolsey-Wessington last Thursday night, held in conjunction with Volley for a Cure, a cancer awareness event that year after year, raises thousands for Weskota Foundation's Cancer Awareness Fund.
