Blackhawks finish regular season 7-1, postseason push set for Thursday

A fourth quarter, oneyard touchdown by Rapid City Christian broke a scoreless game last Friday in Wessington Springs, moving the Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks to 7-1 on the regular season.

With 42-20 win over Lead-Deadwood, Blackhawks move to 7-0 on the season

The Woonsocket/ Wessington Springs/ Sanborn Central Blackhawks exploded to 7-0 on the season with a 42-20 victory over the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers in Deadwood last Friday, October 6. Holden Havlik had an impressive 188 yards and five touchdowns while also running for 34 yards on two runs.

Among them were Ella Fagerhaug, Raylee Fagerhaug, Rylan Fagerhaug, Wyatt Fagerhaug, Hannah Heezen, Hastin Heezen, Kate Havlik, Londyn Mikkelson (pictured above), Sarah Poncelow, Selah Havlik and Jayla Schley. The youth competed in several different events over the three-day event.

Avery Orth (center) had 21 kills and 16 blocks in addition to earning an impressive milestone: 1,000 digs. On the heels of reaching 1,000 kills last month, Head Coach Lynn Damm touts this achievement as a testament to her hard work.

ORTH ACHIEVES 1,000 DIGS MILESTONE DURING HOME VICTORY OVER HUSKIES

Last Thursday, the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans held on for a five-set victory over the Bridgewater/Emery Huskies with scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-17, 12-25, and 15-10. 

Spartans Finish Seventh in Rustler Invite

On Monday, September 25, 2023, the Spartans traveled to Miller to participate in the Rustler Invite on their golf course, north of Miller, despite the rain that fell, the course held up and running conditions were favorable. Of the 27 schools, eight had a complete team for the girls’ varsity race.

WSHS senior to host youth golf camp Saturday at Springs Country Club

Area third through sixth graders will have a unique golf opportunity on Saturday, September 30 thanks to Wessington Springs High School (WSHS) senior Blake Larson. As part of his senior project, Larson is hosting a Youth Golf Camp at Springs Country Club in Wessington Springs.

BLACKHAWKS MOVE TO 4-0 ON THE SEASON WITH VICTORY IN MILLER

The Woonsocket/ Wessington Springs/ Sanborn Central Blackhawks overcame the Miller/Highmore-Harrold Rustlers 41-0 Friday at Bob Schroeder Field in Miller. The win catapults the Blackhawks to 4-0. Holden Havlik had 204 yards passing with four touchdowns and an interception.
