This week we bring a project from last school year to our Artist’s corner. This project was completed by Advanced Art II student, Zachary Kruse. He wanted to create a threedimensional project using a variety of materials. He wanted to create a medieval style knife with a frame base to hold it. The blade of the knife was created with air dry clay while the handle was made with wood. To add more detail and interest to the handle, Zachary wood burned a design into both sides and then added some gold paint to the edges. Zachary created a small slit in the wood for the air dry clay blade to fit between and then he secured the blade to the handle with both glue and twine. A finishing touch on the handle was wrapping leather strips around it for grip. The frame base is made with wood and measured out to fit the size of the knife. Then Zachary cut the pieces of wood and then built the frame. He finished it off by staining the wood to create a nice dark color.
