Local Women Earn Top Honors in SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Art Show

The SDHCA Dakota MasterWorks Art Show held its 27th annual exhibition on November 7-8, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society National Campus in Sioux Falls. The show featured art created by artists age 60 and older who are South Dakota residents. This year’s show included 150 artistic entries.
Among the more than 200 band members who will represent South Dakota is Nora White, granddaughter of Wessington Springs woman Darleen Cuppy.

Judy Winegar and Patti Mehlhof flew to Boston, MA and took a WNAX bus trip to Vermont September 28 – October 5 to see the magnificent trees turning color. They also visited the JFK Presidential museum at Cape Cod, MA.“We made stops at many interesting areas on the northeastern coast.
Since 2016, visiting hunter Dean Van Dam has returned home to New Mexico with much more than tales from the field. Every year upon returning to Wessington Springs he makes a point of attending the Ducks Unlimited Annual Banquet to purchase an original painting by local artist Kenzee Schafer. Much more than just tales from the field, New Mexico hunter returns home with original paintings by local artist

When Clovis, New Mexico hunter Dean Van Dam bought his first painting by then 11-yearold artist Kenzee Schafer, he saw something special in the way she captured her subject.“I was impressed at how she made the duck come to life on the canvas and I just really liked the painting,” he shared.

From the halls of Wessington Springs High School we bring a new project to this week’s Artist’s Corner.This project was recently completed by Advanced Art I senior, Ridge Roduner. For this project, he chose to work with charcoal as he had never worked with it before and wanted to try something new.

If your doorbell should ring during the evening hours on Wednesday before Halloween, it won’t be because someone has their days mixed up.Wednesday night, October 30, the Community Youth Group will be going door-to-door conducting their annual “Trick- or-Treat for the Food Pantry.
