It’s well documented that much of Jerauld County area thins out significantly during the last weekend in August as locals make a well-worn path to the South Dakota State Fair in Huron.

The days are getting shorter. Families are already checking backto- school shopping lists. And did I see an aisle of Christmas lights at Menards last weekend? No, that must have been a nightmare.

Where Are the Amidons?

High atop a bluff along busy Cliff Avenue in northern Sioux Falls stands the Pioneer Memorial, a tall quartzite obelisk built to honor the area’s first homesteaders. Visit today and you can see more than a century and a half of progress in every direction.

Rolling in Reno, NVThe True Dakotan accompanied these Wessington Springs ladies as they competed in the 2024 USBC National Women’s Bowling Tournament in Reno, Nevada on June 26 and 27.

Norma Powell and family traveled with her True Dakotan to New York, New York last month.The traveling five-some enjoyed a Broadway show, carriage ride through Central Park, “Hop on Hop Off” tour bus, shopping in Times Square, good food and much more while in New York City.
