Pool house mural takes shape through SACOTA internship

Those who visit and reside in the town of Wessington Springs now have a new piece of art to admire as they travel along Dakota Avenue or visit the municipality’s pool. Local artist Ruthe Lindvall has been hard at work on a colorful mural painted on the east side of the Wessington Springs pool house.

South Dakota poet, Rosemary Dunn Moeller, will be reading from her latest book of poetry at Anne Hathaway Cottage on Tuesday evening, June 18 starting at 6 p.m.Her book is titled “Long Term Mates Migrate Great Distances.

Shakespeare Garden Planting Festival Set for May 22-25

The long standing tradition of the Annual Shakespeare Garden Planting Festival is set to begin Wednesday, May 22.

Energize conference inspires new Wessington Springs business owner

Dacia Mitchell wanted to open her own store but wasn’t sure where to start. Then she attended the 2023 Energize conference in Wessington Springs. “I’ve always thought it would be so fun to have a boutique,” she said. “Knowing where to start was the biggest hurdle.
Just in time for National Poetry month celebrated in April across the country, Wessington Springs High School English teacher Devena Jackson informed the True Dakotan that “some very good poems are coming out of my 8th grade unit.” With the students’ permission, she shared them with the newspaper for publication and can be viewed below.
