The 14th annual Brett Boomer Memorial Golf Classic raised more than $2,700 for the Alpena Fire Department during this year’s tournament, held Saturday, June 13, at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
Proceeds from the annual event help the volunteer department make continued improvements to its firefighting and rescue equipment.
This year’s tournament drew 60 golfers, along with family members, friends and volunteers. The day began with a breakfast buffet at the Red Hog Pub and Casino in Alpena before participants made their way to Broadland Creek.
Matt Mikkelson and Jason Schley claimed the tournament championship for the second consecutive year. Their names will be added to the tournament plaque displayed at the Red Hog.
Volunteers Krissa, Audrey, Megan, Finnley, Landyn and Magnolia Jo staffed the tournament’s “Hydration Station” as temperatures warmed throughout the day.
Following the tournament, participants returned to the Red Hog for an appetizer buffet, door prizes and the event’s traditional group toast.
Organizers thanked Ben Dragt and the staff at Broadland Creek Golf Course for hosting and helping coordinate the tournament, as well as Shawn and Tara and the Red Hog staff. Numerous area businesses and individuals donated door prizes and financial contributions to help support the event.
The 15th annual Brett Boomer Memorial Golf Classic is scheduled for Saturday, June 12, 2027.
