The Wessington Springs School District is asking for input from parents and community members as it considers possible changes to the student cell phone policy for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year.
An online survey was distributed by the district this week and is open to all parents and residents in the community. Responses will help guide the school board and administration in shaping the updated policy, with discussion expected at the July board meeting.
“Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts with the district about cell phone use for students,” the district said in its email sent July 7, 2025.
Discussion around student cell phone use gained momentum during the June 12 school board meeting. During the public forum portion of the meeting, two community members shared their opinions on the topic. Followingthatinput, theboardandadministrationagreed it would be beneficial to gather broader community feedback through a formal survey before finalizing any policy changes.
The survey asks for the community’s thoughts on cell phone use during school hours. The link to the survey can be found on the school’s website at: https://www. wessingtonsprings.k12.sd.us
