The Wessington Springs Area Chamber & Development Board is planning a full slate of spring and summer events while also seeking a parttime executive secretary/ community liaison.
The annual Easter celebration will be held Saturday, April 4. An Easter egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. at City Park, with candy provided by BankWest and assistance from Jerauld/Buffalo 4-H. The Wessington Springs Fire Department will host its Easter Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Fire Hall, with pancakes and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
The Fourth of July parade will be held at 2 p.m., with family activities in City Park as part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
Rockin’ Ribfest/ Foothills Days will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7–8. Events include the Firemen’s Funfest Friday evening and Saturday activities such as a new SACOTA photo and art show, bean bag tournament, face painting and live music by the Bad Habits Band featuring rock, pop, dance and country music. Barbecue ribs will be served until gone. Additional events are still being confirmed.
The board will host Southeast South Dakota Tourism Association Executive Director Kasi Haberman at its April 10 meeting to highlight the community and explore regional marketing opportunities. The South Dakota Glacial Lakes & Prairies Tourism Association will visit at a later date.
Ongoing efforts include a membership drive, a new Chamber logo to be unveiled soon, and additional grant funding for the Old Grade Trail Project to hire a consultant. Office and business incubator space is available at 230 Main Street East.
The Chamber is seeking a part-time executive secretary/community liaison to assist with event coordination, communications and board support.
