Wessington Springs florist Laura Baker partnered with the Springs Food Market to help stock the shelves at the Jerauld County Food Pantry with the 25th annual Caring Roses campaign, November 6-10.
Baker’s Design sold out of over 100 dozen roses with participants getting a great deal on a dozen roses after donating two non-perishable items to the Food Pantry. Even after Baker’s Design sold out of the roses, people continued to donate, with many bringing in more than two food items.
Springs Food Market owners Lisa Younie and Ryan Jensen matched the food items with a financial donation to help make this year’s campaign another successful one.
The rose sales brought a total of over 400 non-perishable food items to the local charity, something that Younie is happy to help support.
“Participating in Caring Rose Week is an important tradition of giving back to the community,” she said. “Roses and food for those who need it. It’s a win win.”
As part of a larger effort of florists across the central United States aimed at gathering nearly 40 tons of food for those in need, Baker’s Design participates annually in Caring Rose Week to help raise awareness and food donations for the Jerauld County Food Pantry.
Longtime Food Pantry volunteers Marcella Andersen alongside Janece Wetzel were on hand to accept the delivery of the food products. “We are so happy that Baker’s Design and Springs Food Market have chosen to support this worthwhile project,” Andersen said. “Local food donations can’t come at a better time with the holidays approaching.”
