Not A Chance Of Dampened Spirits At Foothills Days 2023

Rain, ribs and roaring good times

Flooded with fun, festivities and a whopping 5 plus inches of rain, this past weekend in Wessington Springs was a Foothills Days locals and visitors won’t soon forget.

Packed brim-full with entertainment, eats and activities, the Wessington Springs area community had much to celebrate at its annual festival as the sky opened up and provided much-needed moisture to the region, all the while continuing on, despite a few minor delays with Foothills Days.

Gail Arnott came in at the top of his age group in the 5k run during the Weskota Foundation Walk and Run for Wellness, held Saturday morning, bright and early at 7:30 a.m. at the Wessington Springs Fire Hall.

Hometown favorite Dustin Evans and The Good Times Band packed the tent at Rockin’ Ribfest held in the city park Saturday night. The band played on despite the rain and kept attendees dancing through the evening.

INSET PHOTOS, LOWER ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Barbie and Mike Brunsen were among the 14 teams who competed at Rockin’ Ribfest Saturday. The husband and wife team, “Chuck’s Barbie Q Ribs” featured homemade sauce, dry rub, fresh salsa from the garden and lots of smiles as they smoked and prepared 36 racks of ribs for competition.

SACOTA Rummage Sale Rescue projects were auctioned off by Luckett Auction Service with half of the proceeds benefiting the local organization. Keaton Hasty stands with Val Luckett as his Rummage Sale Rescue was sold to the highest bidder.
