Parade Date Change for Hometown Independence Weekend Celebration

A long weekend filled with fireworks, a parade, golf tournament, baseball and much more is right around the corner as folks in the Jerauld County area plan to celebrate Independence Day 2022. Many events are planned this year on July 2 - 4 to help locals and visitors alike commemorate the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

Friday, July 1

Kick off Independence weekend with America’s favorite pastime as Springs Legion baseball takes on Scotland at home. Action starts at 7 p.m. in the city park at David Jost Memorial Field.

Saturday, July 2

The Blue and Gold Golf Tournament is slated for Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Springs Country Club. Tee off is at 10 a.m. Call the country club at (605) 539-1944 to register.

Sunday, July 3

Start out Sunday with a community church service in the park at 11 a.m. followed by a grilled hot dog lunch. Then at 1 p.m., head to the Opera House for the annual Eastern Star Talent Show. Prepare to be dazzled by singing and skits by talented kids and adults alike.

Monday July 4

The 4-H Horse Club Barrel Race will be held on July 4 at 10 a.m. at the rodeo grounds in Springs. Later that afternoon, grab a lawn chair and get ready to enjoy the fanfare of the Fourth of July parade, set to depart on the parade route at 2 p.m. from College Avenue, down to Main Street then circle by Weskota Manor Avera. Entrants can sign up at the Opera House from 12 - 1:30 p.m. before lining up on College Avenue. Finally, at dusk, set your gaze to Lookout Hill for a spectacular fireworks show courtesy of Wessington Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
